Trampolines & -50

Graeme Peters, age 29, decided last Friday to attempt a front flip on an Olympic style trampoline. The result of this attempted front flip was that Graeme fell off the trampoline and ended up bruising his ribs and severely injuring his right shoulder.

Speed Control has now made Graeme sign a form saying he “will never use an Olympic style trampoline ever again”.

Graeme is recovering well

TOUR
If we can get the van started (as it is -50 degrees) the tour will start on Feb 16th with a tour kick off night in Whitehorse and then we head down the highway right after school on the 17th. check out where and when we will be playing throughout Feb. and March on the Tour Page

MOVEMBER

HEY EVERYONE IT’S TIME FOR @Speedcontrol to have the monthly party of Movember. We will be donating $1 for every 5 likes on our facebook page to killing Prostate Cancer, as well we will be putting on a bit Movember Show at the end of the Month where we will donate 50 percent of the money we make at the door to helping rid the world of Prostate Cancer.

Breakout West 2011 & the WCMA’s

WHAT JUST HAPPENED!?!?!?

That was the best event to hit Whitehorse, Yukon, EVER!! 50 bands, 9 venues, 6 bands a night at each place! The music and musicians were simply incredible. We got to play on some killer line-ups with Jordan Cook, Wool on Wolves, Tupelo Honey, and more. Big shout out Josh for heading up the tech for the weekend, to Roly at Jarvis St. Saloon and Marshal at Foxy’s Cabaret for working their sweet magic on the sound boards, to the volunteers throughout the weekend, and to all of the people who came out to the shows. Without you, nothing happens!

The awards show was nuts! Great collaborations between award nominees not to mention 54-40 getting inducted into the hall of fame, followed by a performance from them! ROCK!

4 straight nights of playing made for some awesome shows and some crazy contacts! Attending the conference side of the festival was the best thing we could’ve done. The one-on-one meetings with industry reps were SICK! All we can say is: it’s time to get to work!

Remembering the work we Speed Control did with Amy Wolter in Nashville at Tom Jackson Productions just about a year ago. We now have done 2 showcases which went incredibly well and we are about to do our first intense rock festival (BREAKOUT WEST) and I am freaking out. I have three new songs that are better then anything we’ve ever done before and one is even a ballad (i know you like ballads Amy) I am about to have the most intense week of my life. GO GO GO SPEED CONTROL!

Good news everyone!

Graeme hopped on a bus on Tuesday and went to Edmonton in hopes of finding a new tour van. It worked! Our new tour mobile is named Borris (the cousin of Neuman). 2000 Honda Odyssey in ridiculously good shape. Oh, did I mention it’s gold?! It’s a bit like playing Tetris, trying to fit everything in but it’s a sexy van!

The Death of Neuman

As many of you know, Neuman, our tour van, is a huge part of the Speed Control family, and unfortunately on Sunday, July 24, he met his fiery death.

We are still mourning his passing but we are trying to move on and need some support in doing so. Rather than flowers or even bacon, we are asking for contribution to fund Neuman the Second. We have a fundraising campaign on indiegogo.com/speedcontrol. We would be eternally grateful for any and all help. Also, you get free stuff when you help our cause!

We are in Fort Mcurray teaching a 2-week Rock Camp as part of the interPLAY music festival. On August 8th, we have to leave. We have until then to find a new Neuman.

Neuman’s Birthday

So 3 days ago our van “Neuman” turned 300,000. That is very impressive considering I got this van for $1,500 5 years ago and he hasn’t let me down yet……..

Tour is going super well. Last night we were up on the top of Grouse Mt. for a BBQ at Spencer’s friends house. IT WAS THE MOST AMAZING VIEW EVER.

FIRST – Rock camps in Haines Junction and Faro YT were nothing short of Some of the best times I’ve ever had. The kids were so “Rock and Roll” that it made us rock harder in our shows. Basically I’m super pumped for the summer tour to rock out with kids all across Canada.

SECOND – D-ROK (aka Derek Wyatt) is fitting in very well as the new Bassist for the group bringing over 15 years of rock experience and really adding to the vibe of the band.

THIRD – this coming Monday, June 13th, will be the last show for a while with Jody Peters. We are super sad to see him go but he’s gotta “Live the Dream” in his own way. ROCK ON DUDE!!!

FOURTH – New Merch – we have an entire new line of t-shirts and hoodies for the summer tour. if you want to reserve something just send me an e-mail at g-ram@speedcontrol.ca

Speed Control news:

The month of May has been a busy one! The Summer of Rock tour is almost finalized. Just filling a few more dates here and there. Thanks to Debbie Peters of Magnum Opus Management for all her hard work on the tour!

The beast of burden (our 1984 GMC Vandura named Neuman) is running amazingly well!

We spent this last weekend in beautiful Haines Junction, YT, teaching kids how to play rock and roll and how to play in a band. The Haines Junction Convention Center will never be the same! 15 kids in total, 10 in one band and 5 in another, all rocking their socks off on stage. It was a lot of fun, and it culminated with a show for the community. Great people, great rock, and a great time!
